Unveiling the Crowded Treasures of Sana’a’s Copper Souq
At the heart of Old Sana'a, specifically in Al-Halqa Souq, our lens documents a majestic scene inside Al-Sayrafi for Copperware. This is not just a shop; it is a living museum of Yemeni heritage, crowded with stories that breathe from floor to ceiling.
A Visual Symphony: Between Light and Shadow
The shop is packed with an overwhelming abundance of treasures. On the left side, a warm golden glow illuminates luxury handmade pieces: towering vases, and Mahdaliya & Sana'ani Dallahs. Hanging from above are massive brass horns (Baro'a), traditional sticks, and prayer beads, forming a ceiling of shimmering copper.
In contrast, the right side reveals a cool blue ambiance, highlighting an array of traditional water pipes (Shisha), bells, and incense burners (Mabkhara). You can also spot a formidable collection of Yemeni Janbiyas (daggers) and swords lining the shelves, reflecting the diverse heritage of both ornament and tradition.
The center and floor are a bustling world of details: miniature brass camels, hand-cranked coffee grinders, and vases with delicate blue and white enamel inlays. Look closely, and you won't miss the small drum (Tasa) hanging from the ceiling and the ornate gold-patterned frame on the right, all enhancing the atmosphere of a living museum in Souq al-Milh.
Technical & Safety Mastery:
- Pure Forging: Created through heavy hand-hammering on pure red and yellow copper for lasting durability.
- Verified Safety: No industrial chemicals used; all patterns are hand-chiseled using safe, traditional methods.
- Artistic Value: These pieces are the "Pulse" of Yemeni resilience, combining heritage with technical excellence.
